Essential oils form a very important part of the economy of Southern France, especially Provence and the area around Grasse, the perfume capital of the world. Difference between Lavender and Lavandin- Lavender is a plant that has been known and cultivated for centuries. It is however expensive and time consuming to extract and to grow. In the early 1900s a hybrid was developed, with 5 times the yield of lavender, a stronger scent and even longer lasting. Today 90% of products scented with Lavender are in fact scented with Lavandin.
